SYNOPSIS

(English follows) Due amici coinvolti in politica in Italia negli anni ’70, si cercano a piu’ di 10 anni di distanza dall’ultima volta in cui si sono visti. Il loro incontro diventa un momento di confronto e di riflessione sulle scelte passate.

In the aftermath of Italy’s troubled ‘70s, two former right wing terrorists – one now a professor, the other still in hiding – look for each other. They are part of a generation that, independently from which side they took at the time, or what was their degree of involvement in the political fight, is looking back and thinking.

 

DIRECTOR’S NOTES 

(English follows) “Generazione zero” è l’adattamento del romanzo omonimo di Giuliano Compagno. Nel video ho scelto di rispettare la struttura in aforismi con cui è stato scritto il libro, traducendola in immagini. Ho anche cercato di ricreare quello spazio che si forma tra il testo ed il lettore, parte cosi’ importante dell’esperienza del leggere.

In 1990 I accepted a proposal from the Italian writer Giuliano Compagno to produce a videotape from one of his books. “Generazione zero” (Generation zero) borrows its narrative structure from Compagno’s book and visually develops the space that is created in the experience of reading. It is this space that interests me most and that I want to further explore. Considering the overload of images which surrounds us there remains and important need to find and explore those spaces created by open ended images. My work is intended to prompt the viewer to interpret and imagine.
